FAQ

Planting a tree with us

The questions people ask most before planting or gifting a tree. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.

Where will my tree be planted?+
On a named Icelandic farm, planted by our local team. Right now that is Fagrabrekka in north-west Iceland, where we planted our first native trees in September 2026. Your tree becomes part of a planted plot there, rather than a single tagged stem. See where we plant.
What kind of tree is it?+
A young native tree: downy birch, rowan or willow – the trees that covered Iceland before the forests were lost. We choose the species that suits each patch of soil best.
When does my tree go in the ground?+
Iceland's climate gives us two planting windows each year: roughly mid-May to the end of June, and late August to the end of September. Trees sponsored outside those windows are planted in the next one.
Can I give a tree as a gift?+
Yes. Give a tree, a copse or a woodland from €14: you add their name and a dedication, and we email you a printable certificate and an e-card within one working day of confirmed payment. The trees are planted at Fagrabrekka in the next planting window.
Can I visit my trees?+
Yes, if you are a subscriber (Copses or Woodlands) or received a copse or woodland gift. These are real trees on real farms, and you can even help plant them. Because the land is privately owned, visits are arranged with the landowner, so please get in touch first and we will find a time.
How will I know how my tree is doing?+
We share photo and drone updates from the farms on our news page. We are also building a personal page where you can follow the trees you have planted.
Can I cancel my subscription?+
Yes, at any time. Contact us and we will take care of it. See our terms for the details.
Does planting a tree offset my carbon footprint?+
We don't sell it that way. A young tree captures carbon slowly at first and more as it grows over decades. Planting with us is a real contribution to bringing Iceland's forests back – for nature, for the land and for the climate – not a way to cancel out your own emissions.
Why do you plant in Iceland?+
Up to 40% of Iceland was once woodland; about 2% is today. Few places have lost so much forest, and few have so much room to grow it back. Read the story.
Why is the company based in Switzerland?+
Our founders live in Switzerland. The planting itself happens entirely in Iceland, on Icelandic land and with Icelandic people.
