Why it makes a good gift

  • A real place. The trees go into the ground at Fagrabrekka, a farm right on Iceland's Ring Road, planted by our local team.
  • Personal. The certificate carries the recipient's name, a dedication of up to 250 characters and the giver's name, with the farm, the species and the planting season.
  • Fine for the last minute. It arrives by email, so you can still order on 24 December.
  • A reason to go to Iceland. A copse or a woodland comes with a welcome to visit the trees, arranged with the landowner.
  • Simple. One payment, nothing renews, no account needed.
  • A forest coming back. When the first settlers arrived, woodland covered 25–40% of Iceland. Today forest covers about 2%.

Gifts for teams and clients

Companies order once for a whole list, from 10 trees: €14, €45 or €85 per person, with a certificate for each person carrying their name and the company's logo. Pay by card or invoice; certificates follow within two working days of confirmed payment.

For Christmas, card orders by Thursday 17 December arrive by Monday 21 December. Invoice orders must be in by Friday 11 December, with payment by Thursday 17 December. Company gifts

The story

Co-founder and CEO Dr Ólafur Margeirsson is an economist by training. His family has been reforesting its own land at Mælifellsá in Skagafjörður, northern Iceland, since the early 1990s, and he grew up planting trees there with his parents.

Reforest Iceland exists to do the same on more Icelandic farms, together with the families who own the land. In September 2026 it planted its first 120 young trees in open heathland at Fagrabrekka – mostly native downy birch and rowan, with a few hardy larch on the poorest ground. The gift trees are native only.

“Bringing trees back to Icelandic land is not an abstract cause to me; it is something I have done with my own hands since I was a child.”

Getting the details right

  • The certificate covers trees planted together on the plot at Fagrabrekka, not one named tree. Not every young tree survives its first winters, so we report on the plot as a whole.
  • We make no carbon claim for trees bought by individuals.
  • Visits come only with a copse or a woodland, arranged with the landowner. A single tree comes without a visit.
  • Planting is in spring 2027, or in the next window if the ground isn't ready.
